don't forget Darien, Connecticut, where the first Cannondball Run randomly ended. I'm guessing a screenwriter hailed from there? It always struck me as funny.

Interesting. The book Brock Yates wrote about the tribute races to "Cannonball" Baker describes New York and Redondo Beach as the end points.

HOWEVER, the start was moved to Darien for the 1979 race.

Cannonball Run was also filmed in part in Georgia. There really is something about Reynolds having the pull to make movies in a region where not a lot of films were made once upon a time. Most of the movies I cited above could have been made anywhere, but shooting them in the South really gave them some character (and great character actors) they wouldn't have had otherwise. Throw in White Lightning, WW and the Dixie Dancekings, Hooper.
