I saw the first half of the game and some of those calls were just atrocious. Usually Devorski calls a good game but he really crapped the bed tonight.
The Oilers have a lethal power play and shouldn't be missing out on valuable points because of their shoddy goaltending. The team has slipped from second in the West to eighth in the last three weeks. Hopefully Markkanen's horrible outing was bad enough to compel Kevin Lowe to make a move before the club falls any further.

The shirtty goaltending is not a new revelation - it has been holding them back since training camp. If I were them I'd make a strong push to get Kolzig. They don't need a young goalie to last them the next five years, they need a veteran goalie that can take them on a respectible run through the playoffs and hold the fort down for two years until J.F. Deslauries or Devon Dubnyk is ready to take over. In my estimation Kolzig is the best answer out there and would probably come the cheapest interms of what they'd have to give up (Conks or Markkanenn plus a prospect/pick). I think they'd have to give up more for a guy like Martin Biron, at least in the bidding war that I'm sure is going on for his services, or for a Giguere. He's a soon to be 36 year old goalie who's best days are likely in his past but can still provide solid, reliable goaltending - it would also mark one of the final pieces to go in Washington's overhall and rebuilding process.

BTW I didn't get to see the game - on pay per view - but saw the highlights, Markkanen was brutal and I myself was wondering how Peca's second goal counted.

The Horcoff boarding call comes to mind immediately. Only the Rangers could possess a defensmen so uncoordinated that he's hooked and falls to his knees, slamming headlong into the boards in the process. How Devorski missed the boat on that one I'll never know.
Also, despite giving up four goals tonight Lundqvist is amazing.

Lundqvist again gave up four goals today, this time to Detroit. Altho, he was just as good, stopping many odd man rushes. Fun game to watch today between two quality teams.

Not sure what I think about NBC's broadcast tho.

And how did this thread slip to page 3?

Re: New NHL vs. the old NHL

it's time for hockey night in canada, saw poster elliotte friedman interview ken klee and curtis joseph on the pregame.

Re: New NHL vs. the old NHL

jeez, it's 3-0 canucks barely halfway through the first. bertuzzi with two and another one from anson carter. now some guy named kevin bieksa beat up kevin colley

Re: New NHL vs. the old NHL

so much for momentum, islanders lose 6-1 at home to the canucks. nice comeback for the coyotes as gretzky wins again in toronto, 4-3.

Re: New NHL vs. the old NHL

i stand corrected, it was even worse on the island, 8-1 canucks, ex-islander todd bertuzzi with three goals
