BCS leagues expanding - yeah?

Is ND really too arrogant to see the benefits of Big 10 membership?

TV money is better. Football is better (yes, 8 Big 10 games, can still play Navy and USC, plus two more home games, certainly better some of the drek they have on their future schedules), and there is no question the Big 10 is a better fit for every other sport they field that now competes under the Big East banner.

Arrogance, at least within University administration, isn't the problem.

The problem stems from the Board of Trustees not wanting to pish off (older) deep-pocketed alumni who do not want to give up their precious football independence.

Especially if the Big 10 promises to only add ND and to stay at 12 teams.

If Notre Dame really wanted to assert itself it should tell the Big 10 they want them to ditch Northwestern and add them and Nebraska.

Notre Dame is Single

Colorado and the Pac-10 are now friends

Kansas has written on Nebraska's wall: Hey call me

The Pac-10 has declined Baylor's Friendship request

The Big XII is now friends with Air Force, BYU

Iowa State "Likes" the Mountain West Conference, and four other conferences

Baylor has changed its relationship status from "In a Relationship with Texas" to "It's complicated"

Posts like this are why I've been reading this site for six years.

Iowa State is now friends with the Sun Belt, Missouri Valley Conference

The SEC has added "Pillaging the ACC" to its interests

Baylor is now friends with Houston, TCU.

The Big East has joined the group "I bet we can get 100,000 teams in our conference faster than Nickleback, or a pickle"

Tom Osborne has written on Jim Delaney and Gordon Gee's wall: Can't wait for our golf trip this weekend (:

Boise State, Kansas State, and three others have joined "I bet we can get 100,000 teams in our conference faster than Nickleback or a pickle"

Kansas has commented on Jim Delaney's wall post: Need a fourth?

These conference and university officials – the self-absorbed blowhards they are – need to leave the whole thing alone and stand down. Why don't they take a lesson from their history departments, instead of messing everything up?

In the major players here I see a bunch of stodgy buffoons, men used to living comfortably and cut from an aristocratic mold.

They're greedy, out of touch and in love with themselves. Some want to settle scores with old rivals.

One action will cause an incredible ripple effect, creating a series of reactions that will in turn destroy the conference structure as we know it.

Is this June 2010 or June 1914? Yes I am comparing football to World War I. I'm sure Dennis Miller beat me to it on Monday Night Football, but it makes sense here.

If Notre Dame joins the Big 10 with Missouri and Texas joins Texas A&M in the Pac-10, I think Germany will invade Belgium. Or Iowa State will declare war on Serbia.
Welcome to the world of college football and the business of athletics, newbie. Let me help you dust yourself off after getting thrown off of Jim Delany's horse.

Awesome.
Iowa State fans need to read this. This is beautiful.

Why are we disparaging anyone's fans for being upset and delusional about this?

My school is going to get turbo forked and it feels like a bad dream.

I think it's absolutely hilarious that Missouri may very well wind up getting boned when the whole thing is over.

If you ask two weeks ago or two years ago which two Big 12 teams are most likely to leave, Colorado and Missouri would have been two fine answers.

Now there are reasonable scenarios that leave both among the Big 12 remnants. This whole thing is insane.

As if they're going to stop donating if ND joins the Big Ten, and then risk not having their asses kissed for eternity.

I do hope they enjoyed the SDSU football game last year, and I hope they enjoy watching home games against Nevada, Tulsa, Western Michigan and the like in the future, while enjoying their "independence."

If Nebraska leaves, which sounds like a lock, the Big 12 will disband. I haven't seen anything that suggests otherwise.

By "Big 12 remnants" I'm talking about Iowa State, K-State, KU and whoever else doesn't go to the Big 10 or the Pac 10 in the next couple weeks. I understand there will no longer be a "Big 12".

Orangebloods -- which was way, way WAY wrong about today's Colorado news conference, so take it for what it's worth -- now citing a source close to the Nebraska Board of Regents that the regents have informally agreed to leave for the Big Ten and an announcement is coming Friday.

Chris Mortensen says Tom Osborne has informed athletic staff members that the move is coming.

ESPN has been way, way, way behind on this. You figure someone there would have had sources on this, considering their TV contract etc. Yet, the first bit of news comes from one of their NFL guys?

However, KU and the Big 12 leftovers in a Mountain West that might add Boise State would make that a BCS conference. And KU basketball would certainly be attractive to basketball-heavy conferences in the ACC and Big East, which might have to scramble to add teams themselves if the SEC and Big 10 start to take from their conferences. And would the SEC really want to add more football powers? I ask that because if it wants a better basketball rep, KU would need a home. I mean, with all the rumors about the Tar Heels in the SEC on the last two pages, KU would bring much the same resume.

Bottom line, KU will be in a BCS conference of some sort. The Jayhawks won't be playing Southern Miss in a home-and-home Conference USA rivalry. Just where KU lands, well, who knows. About 20 dominoes probably need to fall before we start to find out.

If you could point me to a credible media rumor that has ANY BCS conference seriously considering making a play for the Jayhawks, I'd appreciate it.

And this doesn't include Mandel's pretty use of metaphor with the whole "LeBron James free agent" line.

Kansas isn't on any of the major conferences' wish list. Especially if Kansas State is a necessary partner. And moving them to the Mountain West won't make that a major conference. Being a major conference is largely about athletic department budgets and, to a miniscule extent, about the academic level of the schools. There are too many weaklings in the MWC.
