TikTok had plenty of users anyway. That's one of the sticking points of why this was a huge deal, was just how staggering of a number of regular U.S. users there wee. It may get a few more but that will be a drop in the bucket.
I still really don't see how making this a stunt benefits them.
Again, they always said they would go dark without a resolution. They obviously got one. How shady it is is another story.
It wasn't going to go dark. It was going to disappear from the App Store. For the immediate future there probably would have been very little change for existing users.
Trump announced he was giving them 90 days before they did the performative shut down. Now they are kissing his ass. He has 90 days to figure out how to cash in. If he can't, he'll probably just let it live so he can be a hero to teenagers… even though he's the one who wanted to shut it down in the first place.
