BCS leagues expanding - yeah?

If absolutely just need a stop gap for now, I would just add a Texas school. NMSU really adds nothing. No real history, no recruiting ground, no media market. At least with a Texas school, any Texas school, you can claim you get Texas. And then go from there.

I still think they should have gotten UNLV and I was in on New Mexico early on (much better than NMSU on every level with more upside), but Utah State has grown on me. Can't deny they've done some pretty decent things in their AD. Still should have figured out UNLV. I wonder why they weren't on the original list?

I think they thought they could get two more from the MW if needed and screwed that one up.
NMSU for me is more a sentimental choice. Been there three times and have enjoyed it and Las Cruces.

The No, 8 team won't move the needle, whether it's Texas State or NMSU. And I'm just not a fan of "eastern" (to me) schools like Memphis and Tulane being in a western conference.

No point in pursuing a current MWC team. Need to fix that problem, not pour more gas on the fire.

You might not be, but if it's more money Memphis will jump in a heartbeat. I can't speak to Tulane.
Oh, I know. But I also think Memphis will want special treatment (added money to offset travel, etc.), the same kind of BS that sunk the Pac-12 because USC wanted a larger share of the TV money instead of across-the-board revenue-sharing.

Any new member, I want them all-in, and I'm not sure Memphis will ever do that. Texas State and NMSU would be.

Memphis in your conference is going to be a pain in the ass. It's a rule.

Northern Illinois is expected to join the MWC for football-only today. Probably Missouri Valley for its other sports.

Kind of a lateral move, but it will give the MWC some Central Time TV options 5-6 times a year.
I think the Missouri Valley is quite the upgrade from the MAC when it comes to basketball.
