Best SportsJournalists.com threads of the past

If you haven't read it — or even if you have — @Batman's Vin Scully story is one of the best things this board has produced.

RIP, Angie.

That's so far in front for Best Single Post that I'm not sure what would be second. It's like Secretariat, the first 40 games of the 1984 Tigers, and Alcindor/Walton UCLA all happening on the same page.

What was the running novel that people were contributing to? I recall 21 was heavily involved.

Crossed Giblets of Death
I don't think that was it. The lead character was Terry something.

And then there was ...

Hello everyone!! Happy Holidays.

I am writing because I think I have decided to make a career change. I have been in the cutlery business for 12 years, but I have lost interest in it. I'm a mother of two grown kids, and now I want to do what I enjoy! Which is writing.

I love the NFL and can't wait for Sundays in the fall. My favorite team is the Miami Dolphins! (I know, I know ... maybe next year!) In fact I've been writing a book about NFL fans who are women, but I haven't decided whether to get it published. I guess by now you can tell where I'm going with this!

Basically, I'm looking for your advice. I think I'd make a great NFL writer and would prefer to write on the Dolphins or be a predictions columnist, but I know these jobs don't fall off trees and that my lack of journalism experience might make getting a chance to prove myself difficult. But could I expect to get a tryout?? Do they even have tryouts?

I'd be willing to write about the NBA or NHL (whenever it comes back) for a while if it means proving myself. I've been reading on here about journalismjobs and APSE boards, but Ive been checking those and haven't seen any NFL writing jobs listed. Does anyone know where they might be listed?? Do you have any leads?? Or should I just call newspapers directly and see what they have to offer.

Thanks in advance.

So many good journalism discussions from which to choose. I'd have to spend some time finding them, but here's was one, from 2008, involving Boston Herald reporter John Tomase and rumors of the Patriots taping a pre-Super Bowl walk-through. Unfortunately, a couple key links in the thread are no longer live, but still, it was a great discussion.

Doesn't the Herald owe more than an apology?Doesn't the Herald owe more than an apology?

All the threads related to Joe Paterno's "death," and then, his actual death, were really great.

Checking all of them out could take several days to read, but the "Rushing to be Wrong," RIP Joe Paterno," and the "Posnanski and the Paterno Book" he planned to write were epic, interesting threads from 2012.

I read this one every September because it was personal and the outpouring here really touched me -- and helped me. And leads me to stick around.

Terrible News For One of Our Own
The RIP threads for spnited and SF_Express are among our finest hours here too. And the way we all rallied around Elliotte after the 2016 Olympics.
