CFB offseason thread 2025

That's ground that has been pretty well plowed by now between the ACC and Big 10.

Rich Rod has figured out what's been ailing WVU. The young whippersnappers can't be dancing on the Ticky Tock no more.

Rich Rodriguez says he's banned his West Virginia players from dancing on TikTok

"Like I said, 20 years from now if they want to be sitting in their pajamas in the basement and eating Cheetos and watching TikTok or whatever the hell they can go at it. Smoking cannabis, whatever. Knock yourself out. But hopefully their focus can be on winning football games. How about let's win the football game and not win the TikTok."

Wasn't NIL going to be about guys building their #brandz online?

Big 12 moves 10 games to Friday night in 2025 - ESPN

I remember when the big boys laughed at Boise State and the WAC for playing on Friday nights.

The good news about expensive media-rights deals: leagues make a lot of money. The bad news: the networks tell you when to play, no matter how inconvenient it is to the people buying the tickets.

One thing I noticed this past season was that quite a few Big XII games in the 3:30, 6 p.m., 7 p.m., etc blocks were shuttered to ESPN+. And I think ESPN+ obviously wants more games on their streamer, but I'm equally sure that the Big XII doesn't want any of their conference games on the streamer.

Yeah, but streaming is the future. And with streaming, the home team can actually somewhat control kickoff time to make it more convenient for the fanbase, which often gets screwed by awful start times/6-day windows.

How much in the future before viewership eclipses broadcast and cable, though? 10 years? And human beings have been getting screwed by kickoff times for the last 25+ years. Not a new thing.

Very little juice in the arena for a tight Cal-Stanford game, which to be fair was probably the case in the PAC-12 tournament days too. I never really paid attention before but the lips on the Stanford tree seem … umm … problematic.

Yes, but at least they were in Vegas.
