ESPN used fake names for Emmy Awards

They got rid of Shelly Smith? WTH?

And frankly - the on-air staff should be eligible for awards given to a "show." But aren't the emmys one of those deals where you have to buy the trophy? The one you "get" at the awards presentation is more or less a prop.

No. They were eligible for their own Emmy. They were not eligible for an additional production Emmy.

No.

Re-engraved trophies! I had one of these stories once, I've shared it before here:

I was at one of my first gigs in Podunkville when the publisher tipped me off to a story about some old ladies who had got re-plated trophies in their bowling league. The owner of the Podunk Lanes was a former pro bowler and to save some shekels he re-plated stuff, so Agnes got her trophy but when the plate fell off it was the owner's from finishing second in the 1977 Pensacola Open or some such. Just lame. The owner talked to me, not confrontational but was surprised it was a big deal, though Agnes and others were upset so it was perfect small-town news and of course the publisher put it on the front page.

And ESPN re-plated effing Emmys. Unreal.

Christ, I'd rather have a re-plated PBA trophy than something that came from page 77 of the Trophy World Inc. catalog. "Wait, you got this trophy for losing to Marshall Holman? Was he as big a deck as he seemed?"
