On Selection Sunday for the women, I saw that USC did not cheer its No. 1 seed. The coach went on camera to complain and said the committee that deals with the women's tournament has no idea what it's doing.
As a Trojan, it was sort of embarrassing to complain about a No. 1 seed, but I don't really follow them. Then I looked closer and got her point.
Briefly, the Trojans got the fourth No. 1 seed, when a legitimate case could be made for them to be either the first or second. Long-term, providing the teams win the games they are supposed to win, they are slotted to meet Connecticut in the Elite Eight. That would pit Watkins against Bueckers and eliminate one of the two best players in the country before the Final Four.
Just here to note that Texas is a 45.5-point favorite over William & Mary in the women's tournament.
