General movie news thread

Waiting for the movie industry to bend the knee and just give an honorary Oscar to Trump. Or maybe replace Conan as host. I actually think it would boost the ratings. Instead of a monologue Trump comes out and tells Hollywood why all their homes burned down, "and your movies are terrible...."

Giamatti's got a great voice for the role.
Speaking of aliens, what's up with Tom Cruise's face? I saw a picture of him from a few years ago where he looked like that. Does he do something when he's shooting a film like stick a vacuum hose up his nostril or something? Looks like three different guys. Or at least three guys who didn't win a Tom Cruise lookalike contest. Admittedly, I think MI wrapped three years ago, but seriously.

Heard Bruce Vilanch on NPR today talking about some of his lesser noted works he wrote about in his new book "It Seemed like a Bad Idea At the Time." Didn't realize he was involved with the Star Wars Christmas special, The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, the Brady Bunch Variety Hour AND this piece of art. Though watching it again - it seems closer to one of those classic Orange Bowl halftime shows - a lot of spectacle, a few celebrity cameos and ZERO emotional thrust and it just kind of ends. It was "based" on Beach Blanket Babylon, a long-running cabaret show in SF that was somewhat legendary. Anyway, the Academy hated it, and Billy Crystal hosted for the first time the next year.

Its funny, it seemed to be just over a year ago people were pummeling Disney with the Go Woke, Go Broke thing, and they had the top three grossing movies last year. A BILL each, and four of the top 10. Even Madame Web crossed the $100m mark.
