Hey a-holes, turn off the high beams

In any case, with high beams or too-bright glare from oncoming vehicles, remember to always divert your eyes from the lights. You'll blind yourself in the moment if try to stare them down – and possibly steer toward them. ... Instead, focus on the markers on the right side of the lane you're in until you get past. Keep your eyes focused downward and to the right.

This has been another tax-free PSA from the SJ Member Benefits Dept.

Like you said, Drift, feels like some of the problems could stem from the automatic feature, which I hate. I don't need my brights to be turned on and off as my vehicle/sensor decides is needed, and same with the auto lights option, where my car will turn lights on and off as it dictates. I'm capable of turning my lights on and off, and brights on and off, on my own.

Sometimes I hate being a crotchety old Basket. But I'm OK with this one.
I have two cars, and the one has the automatic feature. I wish they both did. Especially good for back-road highway driving.

I think part of the problem, for those of us who drive sedans or other low-riding pashenger cars, are the way SUVs and pickup trucks are a bit higher off the ground, meaning their bright lights shine directly into our rear view mirror when they're behind us.

I'm pretty good at adjusting my rear view mirror so that it reflects straight back at them.

I have auto lights with auto high beams. Y'all think about your lights that much?

Happy for you, but what does that have to do with the people who clearly don't have automatic high beams (or, as I've been told by others, those "automatic high beams" often fail to turn off the high beams) that keep their lights in my face?

My old truck was a 2011. By the time I got rid of it in March, even my high beams were pretty weak. I'd say my safe effective range was no more than 35-40 feet. Cruising down a dark deserted road in the middle of the night at highway speed, if there was an obstacle in the road, I would have been toast. I was very mindful of that fact the last year or two I had the truck.
Tuesday we woke up to a couple of inches of snow. The lights on my new truck reflecting on it, holy cow. I could see forever. New truck even has a feature where I can adjust the lights up and down. I always keep them up for maximum distance.

I'm one of the a-holes. One of my low lights is burned out and difficult to replace. Been putting off taking it in for a couple hundred dollar repair that I could do if I can just find the correct YouTube video and panel to unscrew. But at least it's not a new car.
What shop is threatening to charge you a couple hundred bucks to replace a burned out bulb? Do they sell the good green stuff on the side?

Honestly, my car is a 2019 and has the automatic feature and is a sedan, so I'm lower to the ground.

I don't have as many bright lights in my eyes, but when I do… yes, it's bright as fork.

I never got a specific quote but past experience says they are going to charge at least an hours worth of labor and that ain't cheap. Plus you make an appointment and they got ten other cars at the same time so lord knows how long you wait. Of course, half of this is me making up excuses.

ship, do you have a Pep Boys or Auto Zone in your area? I've gone there with a burned out bulb in the past, and as I've been at the counter buying the bulb, mentioned that I've never done it before and asked if he has any tips or tricks to make it easy.

I was the only customer in the store, and he offered to come out and change it for me. Slipped him a $20 afterward and everything was good.

I don't remember which car it was, but they had to jack it up and remove a front wheel to replace a headlight.
