Why don't you tell me why there are affirmative consent laws being passed?

Is it because, well, consent has previously been such an open-and-shut event?

(For the record, I agree with a lot of what you said in the Kane thread, although I do find your use of "believe" problematic.)
 
The level of public scrutiny and visibility is much greater today.

Back in the 1970s, no one would've guessed that so many Catholic priests were serial child molesters. No one would've thought Bill Cosby was a serial rapist.

I'd guess it's that way for a vast majority of these cases. The wholesome public facade is often necessary to perpetrate such crimes.
