Now on the tee, from USA: The 2024 Open Championship thread

I had to look up Lawrence. From South Africa. Rookie of the year in 2022 on the euro tour. He's 27.

I generally find golfers from South Africa to be giant ashholes. I'm rooting for Rose or Xander at this point. And Lowry but he's fading.

Rose making the knee-knocking six-footers for par.

What do you have against Ernie Els?!

Lawrence has won four times in the last two years on the DP World Tour and is No. 98 in the world, so he's not Todd Hamilton/Ben Curtis random though he would be to Americans.

I said what I said!

There is a strong Gary Player influence to my statement though.

Xander stepping on the gas. Huge birdie putt and a two-shot lead with four to play. Trying to snake player of the year from Scheffler.

Schauffele has been flawless in every respect in this round. Just a stellar 18 holes.

PGA Tour Player of the Year will be an interesting argument if Xander wins another gold medal and then the FedEx Cup, which of course the Tour treats like a major. But the Masters champ has some big Tour pelts this year including the "fifth major."

The final pairing, Horschel and Lawrence, each shot 68. If you'd told them that was gonna happen as they stood on the first tee, each would've fancied their chances. Xander blew the field away. 65 on Sunday wins a lot of tournaments, majors included.

Horschel made some solid cash by closing with three straight birdies.

For people who only sorta watch golf when the majors are on, I think Schauffele and Scheffler are the golf equivalent of Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman.
