L.A. sucks, but there is a happy ending ...

Now to tackle the next problem: How do I get her to understand, "Hey babe - let's put the jewelry in your carry on," without us breaking up ....

The two of us travel a lot for work. Often enough in situations where we have to dress up for meetings and business social occasions. So the same sort of fashion considerations as a wedding.

We never pack anything we aren't willing to lose forever - on the ashumption that's exactly what will happen.

That said, if you need to bring jewelry on a trip, wear it.

It sucks, but that is now my moving ashumption. "Anything the movers handle, be prepared for it to be lost/broken."

The look on my wife's face when they damaged our piano two years ago . . . *

*fortunately, a not-too-difficult repair

I just smirk and roll my eyes when people who aren't from L.A. come to L.A. and write about what L.A. is. (Jay Mariotti reference, but at least he lived here for a while). Nobody lives in Downtown L.A.
How many others stayed at the Bonaventure that night and didn't have their unattended suitcase stolen??

L.A. sucks for many more reasons than "my suitcase got stolen."
- Your roads are in terrible shape
- Traffic sucks
- The airport is among the worst I've ever been in
- The city feels Philly-esque in its generally level of "this city is dirty."

... and I am a defender of California. I was born in Monteray, and San Diego is one of my favorite places to visit, for sure.

I've heard elementary school kids say "sammiches" and it really doesn't bug me.

Adding the "ie" or "y" sound, while cutting off the word, always gets me. "sammies"; "footy" for football. They used to say "groundies" for groundstrokes in tennis. yuck.

People who say "sammies" are the same ones who use "tuddy" for touchdowns. I'm fairly anti-capital punishment, but these people deserve the gas chamber.

Side note: I looked up that hotel on Trip Advisor and it said there are 92 restaurants within 0.3 miles of the hotel.

Can that be right?

I'd like to know how a city gets that big and sprawling without a functioning public transportation system.

During the early and mid-1900′s the historic streetcar served as a popular mode of transportation along Broadway and throughout the Los Angeles region. The streetcar system was primarily operated by Pacific Electric (1901-1961) and developed into the largest trolley system in the world by the 1920′s.

One of my friends is coming to attend a couple of Dodgers games and staying at the Bonaventure. I'll warn him to keep an eye on his suitcase.

There is no benefit to beautiful weather if you're spending half the darn time in traffic.
I also say that as a onetime Californian.
