Masters Running Thread

Trevor Immelman's stats for the week:

• Driving distance: 292.7 yards. (Rank: 3)
• Driving accuracy: 86.5 percent. (Rank: 1)
• Greens in regulation: 73.13 percent. (Rank: 1)
• Total putts: 1.55 per hole. (Rank: 4)

Yeah, I'd say the right man won.

The last one is the key. I think I heard he was 176th in putting going in this week.

The guy is such a good ball striker...if he can continue to improve his putting, we're going to hear a lot more from him.

On another subject, I love this ... someone trying to troll for fights on a freaking golf thread. Change the channel, go to sleep, socialize with family ... a lot of better things to do than pick meaningless and obtuse battles - on a golf thread, no less.

Only one person said I was trolling for fights. You didn't have to agree with the ashessment.

Shot, I wasn't talking to you. Relax, eh? SC and Dre were correct.

I'm hoping Player was high when he said that Immelman is as good of a ball-striker as BEN HOGAN.

Are you sure that's what Player said? I thought he said Immelman's swing most reminds him of Hogan.

Immelman says he never looked at a leaderboard during the final round, and if he doesn't want to know where he stands, that's his choice. My question is, where is his caddie as they're standing on the 16th tee? Why doesn't he say to his player, "Trust me. Pick a spot 25 feet right of that flag and hit it there."

That's why caddies are there.

Immelman's caddie in the next major: John Calipari.

OK, I think CBS screwed it's own defenders on this thread just a few minutes ago. While Immelman and Snedeker are lining up their putts on 17, the announcer, Oosterhaus, I think says, "Somehow, Tiger has fought his way back to second, only three strokes back."
Dude, your own network already did an interview with Woods. Tiger is fighting his way back to his street clothes in the champions' locker room. He's not playing anymore! Now you can shut up about him. Please?

Perhaps Oostie thought Trev had some Jean van de Velde in him?? Three up, one to play, no chance to lose, right???

Tiger's birdie putt on 13 was the first time in a long, long time that he gagged it in a clutch situation. The tournament was effectively over when that thing slid by.

There's certainly something to be said for holding it together for 17 of 18 holes on Sunday at Augusta... but I think the most crucial stretch for Immelman was his back nine on Saturday. He dodged that huge bullet on 15, and built the lead... and being six clear of Tiger going into Sunday was a helluva lot more important than being two or three clear of Snedeker.

He was so proud of that. I guess it's good that he wasn't letting the pressure get to you. But to be honest that's just dumb if you ask me. You don't want to have your focus on who is catching up on you, but the way you play shots should be affected by the score.

He did get it done on Saturday.

About Sunday. I know there's a lot of sentiment for "you don't know how tough it is" and "they're only human." But these guys are the best golfers in the world, and every ONE of the contenders yakked at some point Sunday. With the near-disaster at 16, you can't even say that Immelman came up big. He survived.
