MLB 2018 regular season thread

Nola turned in a bit of a stinker yesterday in a loss to the Cubs while Jon Lester managed to get his ERA slightly below Jake Arrieta's, 3.53 to 3.54. Somewhere else on the internet. this prompted the start of a John Lester HOF thread. It is so nice to be missed.

Funny that nobody is talking about the Pirates' amazing offseason any more. Something so stellar shouldn't be forgotten. Neither should that great trade in which they overpaid for Chris Archer in a failed attempt to replace Gerrit Cole. It's almost as if the team has fallen apart. Oh wait. That's exactly what happened.

Bryce Harper hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to tie it, then a game-winning sac fly in the 10th to beat the Cardinals today and make Gronk and a nation of giggling 13-year-olds very happy.
The Nationals' record now stands at 69-69.

Jacob deGrom throws six inning of 1-run ball. Sets a new MLB record with his 25th consecutive start allowing three or fewer runs. He has a 1.68 ERA.

And he's 8-8.

Unreal. But, he's a Met. It's his turn to endure ridiculousness.

I don't know how you could watch a deGrom game and not at least consider him the front-runner for Cyril young. He battles better than any other pitcher and wins the battles, though not necessarily the games, 99 percent of the time. He didn't quite have it tonight, but still held the Dodgers off. Including suffering two big errors by the infield. (I admit I'm a Mets fan - I know - but still)

And he was 2-for-2 with the team's only RBI until the ninth.

He also goes into every start knowing that even if he gives up 0 runs, it's still not good enough to win

ashuming things continue as they have so far, deGrom should win the award. I can see some sentiment for Scherzer because he's got 30 more strikeouts and a lower WHIP, but deGrom has been better.
