2024-25 NHL regular season thread

Makes me think of some other unbreakable records ... like Emmitt Smith's 18,355 all-time rushing yards. The nature of the position now just isn't going to allow it to happen. The only active player in the top 20 is Derrick Henry, and he's 7,003 yards behind. He needs like four more 1,800 yard seasons to get there, which is pretty unlikely now that he's 31.

Nolan Ryan's 5,714 strikeouts is on that list. Verlander and Scherzer are the closest active players around 3,400 each. They've both got a little left in the tank, but not that much.

It's incredible that Nos. 2 and 3 on the list are Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens -- two guys who both had 20+ outstanding seasons and still needed another five peak years to catch Ryan.

Red-hot Jets defeat Senators 4-1.
That's good for Jackets and Wings.

Brady Tkachuk out again for Ottawa. They've lost 5 straight and now on the outside looking in for the wild card race.

And a whole forkton of steroids for Clemens.

Anyone else randomly just remember the summer of 1983, when Walter Johnson fell from first all-time in Ks to fourth as Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan and Gaylord Perry all surpashed him on the list? Carlton ended the season in first at 3,709 Ks, 32 ahead of Ryan. And he finished 1578 Ks behind Ryan, who of course pitched 10 more seasons and was pretty forking great for nine of them. Kerry Wood, who for a hot second looked like a potential heir to Ryan, finished his career with 1,582 Ks. So Steve Carlton was once the all-time strikeout leader but is now the equivalent of Kerry Wood's entire output behind Ryan. forking incredible.

Ovechkin with his 30th last night in a 3-1 loss to Calgary. It's the 19th time he has scored at least 30 in a season.
Gretzky chase is 12.
CBJ and Dallas were flying last night. Jackets won 6-4. Wings beat Minny 3-2. Detroit and CBJ at this writing hold the final two Eastern wildcard spots.
They play each other Thursday at the Parlor, then Saturday in the Shoe.
Parlor? Shoe? What?

Didn't the Braves sit Aaron the opening road trip of 1974 so he could break the record at Atlanta-Fulton County? In fairness, the Braves needed every dollar of revenue they could scrape up to keep the lights on then.
Yes, until Bowie Kuhn intervened. Not one of Kuhn's greater moments. Cannot see Bettman doing the same.

I'm going to try to play the role of Liut translator here...

Parlor -- Little Caesar's Arena (The Pizza Parlor)
Shoe -- Ohio Stadium (outdoor game on Saturday)
Not once have I heard of "The Parlor" in my life and I'm a life-long Wings fan. Is this made up or do people actually say that and I'm just old and our of touch? LOL

I was just guessing, actually. I don't spend a lot of time thinking of Detroit's arena, ha.

I'm old and sometimes out of touch, but read it online somewhere.
Maybe that annoys someone, but probably not as much as twenty years worth of simply "Staples" (L.A.) did me.

Ah ... Ken & Mick usually say either LCA or the Pizzarena ... so I wanted to check I was up to date on my slang.
Yo, word ... groovy & rad! See, I'm still hip!
