McCutchen to Yankees.

He's spectacularly ordinary at this point. I guess that's better than the Yankees' other options though.

That's a good move for the Giants because it opens up a spot for a minor league prospect to get some big league at bats (in the short term) and let's them reconsider options in the off season in terms of payroll and rebuilding (longer term)

Curious what the Giants got back

One name I've seen menitoned is middle infielder Abiatal Avelino, the 23rd-ranked player in the Yankees' system.

Why is opening a roster spot important? The Giants were a day away from expanded rosters and could have released McCuthchen for about $2 million.

Normally Josh Donaldson to the Indians would be the type of trade that could put a team over the hump. Given his injury-plagued year this now seems like an afterthought. Good stick for a pinch-hit situation in a playoff game though.

I know he hasn't played much this year, however, I imagine he will be more than a pinch hitter in the playoffs. They have full intention of having him play third base for the most part of remainder of the season and playoffs.

Age 32 for power hitters is becoming like age 30 for running backs.

As I get into my mid-30s and feel like I've been run over by a Mack truck when I wake up after workouts, I've come to the conclusion someone 38 years old trying to play a professional sport should be able to take as much HGH as they want.
