Most underrated albums

I think Animals by Floyd might be even more underrated, mostly bc it has even better tracks IMHO.

Also, Fashion Nugget by Cake. That was a press play album for me and my friends circa 1997.

Also, Grace by Jeff Buckley.

And definitely Chinese Democracy by Guns. The title track, IRS and Catcher in the Rye are great forking songs and ya never hear any of them on the radio.

I love 'Animals.' Currently my favorite Floyd album, but I guess I never thought of it as under-rated even though it is lesser known.
Another record that the actual members of the band seem to crap on a bit.

I think 'Fashion Nugget' is properly rated. Great album.
Also, 'Grace' is a really popular album. Check out Malcolm Gladwell podcast episode on the evolution of 'Hallelujah.' Very good episode.

Fashion Nugget didn't make the top 100 albums of the 1990s by Pitchfork or Rolling Stone. You're right about Grace in terms of critical appeal, but ya never hear any of his songs on the radio.

Bob Dylan's Street-Legal is awesome and was never recognized as so.

The Gaslight Anthem's Handwritten is really good in hindsight. I think we just all were tired of the same formula by that point.

I should give "Handwritten" another listen. I'm definitely one of those who wrote it off as another warmed-over version the "The '59 Sound." (I love Brian Fallon's first solo record "Painkillers," produced by Butch Walker, whose entire solo career falls into the "underrated" category.)

Another Dylan nomination: "Infidels," which came out during his horrid 80s period. It's really, really good.

"5 Neat Guys' Greatest Hits" is legendary in Canada. Still available on eight-track.

Love "Animals." Perfect album for tedious tasks at work.

I love Infidels, too.

The last year has had me tapping on "License to Kill" quite often.

Good call on Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut (Requiem for a Postwar Dream" ... Bought that at a headshop back when those were a thing, just because of the title track, an old MTV favorite (back when music videos was a thing ... you get my drift).

Another one for the list: "Mirror Mirror" by 10cc. The song "I'm Not in Love" got all of the airplay, but the album from top to bottom is full of great tunes.

U2's Rattle & Hum - Probably overlooked because it came after Joshua Tree, but it has 'Van Dieman's Land' 'Angel of Harlem' 'All I Want is You' and 'Love RescueMe'

Cake's Prolonging the Magic - I bought it for 'Sheep go to Heaven' and 'Satan is my Motor' but then started to love 'Alpha Beta Parking Lot' 'Mexico' and 'Cool Blue Reason'

The Regrettes' Feel Your Feelings Fool - I saw it on one year-end list this year. It needs to be on all of them

Have the Floyd going on my Pandora.

I forgot how many good songs were on Meddle.

One Of These Days
Fearless
Echoes
Pillow Of Winds

But the fact that they put a song on the track of a dog howling (Seamus) is just bizarre.

What other underrated albums can you think of?

Couple more from Ye Olde Chef......

Pump-Aerosmith
Love Over Gold-Dire Straits

Love Over Gold is outstanding.

I never understood the hate for The Final Cut (and there is a lot of it). It's one of my favourite Floyd albums. I think mostly people got tired of Roger Waters writing about his dad. Absent the dilutive effects of the rest of the Floyd catalogue, it's terrific.
