NFL Week 2 running thread ...

Did you mention those stats came against a prevent defense with a 33-point lead?

Your fanboy lack of perspective aside, the Titans suck and might as well make him the starter and let him learn what it's really like to play QB in the NFL.
Me & Vince Young=John Madden & Brett Favre

In case this hasn't been said on the board today, I'll be first up. The Texans suck and wish they had Reggie Bush now.

David Carr is going to need back surgery before too much longer.
Exactly. They could've done what the Jets did and drafted Ferguson and Mangold.

If Texans management knew football, they would have traded the No. 1 overall pick for multiple picks and put together an offensive line.

Reggie Bush, for as talented as he is, would not have made a lick of difference running behind that line.
And yet, he would have much more of an impact on this game than Williams, who finished with two tackles. You don't think David Carr would love a safety valve -- say one dynamic running back with good open-field moves -- when the pocket collapses in 2.3 seconds? A back like Bush would have helped.

If the Texans had multiple picks, they could have filled needs on the offensive line, running back and defense. We don't know if Bush would have been Carr's safety valve; I believe that he would have spent a lot of time having to pick up blitzing linemen and linebackers.

You forget thatthe problem was drumming up interest for that No. 1 spot. Everyone was content to sit where they were and simply pick -- at least, that's what the experts have said was the case. In that scenario, they didn't have much leverage, they didn't have that sweet package thrown at them as has happened with other teams in years past. So the Texans stayed put for a lack of options.

As for linemen, trust me, I agree. But they always could have gotten Boselli that didn't turn out. They could hope the players turned out, but there's no guarantee. Same goes for Bush, but there was far less doubt about his future than, say, Williams or anyone else they could have taken with that top pick.

Ferguson is good, yes. But I'm not sure whether anyone would want to pay him No. 1 money.

I can't believe that 31 other teams had no interest in having the opportunity to draft Reggie Bush.

I can't believe it, either, but no one in the days or months after the draft came out with some Peter Gammons/Buster Olney-type note about the deal that nearly happened to land the No. 1 pick.

I didn't know Rock Cartwright could run that fast.

Anyone else feel like his name should be running in credits after Peter North and Steven St. Croix?

Cartwright was a slow-poke at K-State. Now he's returning kicks 100 yards. I know I speak for myself when I say... 'Huh?'

Bears have played two softies.

Yes, and have destroyed them. :D

Can they even derive much respect if they give the Panthers and Seahawks (two big disappointments) a shirt kicking in their next two weeks, What will it take?

No reason to ponder this. The Bears play the Vikings next week. The schedule is the schedule; saying they'd never beat the Colts next week is utterly, completely pointless.

Well, I guess we can be expecting a rebirth of the "Chargers are a fraud" thread from Almost Famous or whatever he's calling himself now.

Yes, this fanboy's optimistic right now. And I'll head off the main argument now: Yes, they've played two crappy teams. However, the scores of those wins were 27-0 and 40-7. Isn't that what good teams do to weak opponents -- dominate them?

Anyway, hopefully the front defensive seven stays sharp, the defensive backs don't go back to their mediocre ways, and Rivers continues to develop as he has so far. Also, with the Broncos' current offensive woes and the uncertainty over Trent Green, this is a real opportunity for San Diego to take control of that division.

I'll just enjoy this start while I can.
