Beyonce is reportedly going to be the Super Bowl halftime act.

Have the winner and runners-up to the Battle of the Bands perform. Competition, battle of 8 HBCU marching bands, takes place on January 23, 2013.

That would be far more entertaining than Beyonce. My money's on the Sonic Boom from Jackson State.

The FAMU Marching 100 has performed at several Super Bowls, most recently Colts vs. Saints. But they're currently unavailable.

The House of Funk from Morehouse?

A full recounting of how the Cowboys wasted their final 22 seconds. Players running deep routes when the only goal is to get 8 more yards. Those players walking back to the huddle. The guy who caught the pass arguing with the ref. The pass itself being a 1-yarder that kept the clock running. Sending Romo to the field with only one play called.

Jason Garrett is done.

Forget all that other stuff. You have a timeout. Use it.

The 1-yard pass was not an awful call -- there was no safety help in the middle of the field and if he beats that one guy, he's gone for big gain, perhaps even a TD. But if you're going to call that play, the plan has to be to call timeout if (when) he's tackled in bounds.

It really appears pathetic as to how NFL teams, with all their preparation, do not maximize their usage of timeouts. It appears inevitable that teams will let over 30-40 secs tick off while they still have 3 TOs available. Why not use the TO, save the time, then later avoid plays that will take 30-40 secs to reset? Remember you can reset and spike to stop if necessary? Instead, teams will let a clock wind down from say 1 min. to 30 while keeping a TO. I understand that a TO means an immediate stoppage but you can never get that time back.

As for the Cowboys, that was dreadful. If you are going to call the TO, do it IMMEDIATELY. Since it was the 'Boys, it was all the GM's fault.

The only thing to say in the Cowboys' defense regarding the timeout is that with that sorry bunch of stupid forks, if they had used the timeout with 15 seconds left they might very well have forgotten to get out of bounds on the next play.

With 5:17 left in the first quarter, San Fran has managed to blow through two timeouts. Can they make it three before the end of the quarter? Stay tuned to find out!

Turns out: Nope.

Sigh. The 12:17 mark of the second quarter. So close, yet so far away. (SF takes its third timeout. Watching only on gamecast. WTF 49ers?)
