NFL Week 8 -- Primetime blues

Baker Mayfield seems like the kind of QB who people would LOVE if he was an undrafted FA who managed to land a starting job - but he was a number 1 overall pick and you think, I don't know - we should try and find someone better. But I do think he can last another 10-years as a stop-gap QB. One of those guys who has talent enough to keep whatever team he's on from having a high enough pick to draft a better option.

It's more that you have NO idea what you're getting week to week, and there's little logic to why he struggles or succeeds one week to another. He seems moody both on and off the field and it shows in the way he plays.

He and Gardner Minshew are in the same category.

And Jets/Giants just went to OT.

Giants down to their third string QB and have barely thrown the ball. They stopped the Jets on fourth down, but weee unable to get a first down and run out the clock. Gano misses his second FG of the game with less than 30 second left. Jets somehow make it down the field, spike the ball with one second remaining and kick the tying FG.

This game has been ugly as heck (22 combined punts). But we're somehow in overtime.

The WTF!? call of the day, brought to you by IBM.
At the end of the Texans-Panthers game, the Panthers were lining up for the chip shot field goal to win it. Texans player jumps offside trying to block it, misses, hits the holder, and the Panthers have to kick it again since the play was blown dead. Texans get called for the offsides penalty and a personal foul.
Next try, the same guy jumps offsides trying to jump the snap again, and the play is blown dead again. He's called for another personal foul for "back-to-back intentional fouls in an attempt to stop the clock."
How is that possible? The clock was already stopped on the second try. He was definitely offsides, but how is that a personal foul? I've never seen that before.

I know DeVito is a third stringer, but why not just see if he can throw the ball more than three yards down the field?
Just get one damn yard deep in Jets territory. Game over. Don't kick in this weather with a kicker in a slump. Beyond a dumb decision.

Seems likely it's an Achilles and season over for Cousins, who was playing as well as he possibly the last two weeks. The Packers are an awful and borderline unwatchable team right now.

I get trying the field goal. Get stopped on fourth down and you're giving the Jets a chance were they only need the field goal to tie. And since the Giants were flat-out refusing to have DeVito throw the ball, the Jets could have put all 11 guys on the line of scrimmage to stop Barkley on fourth down.

Make the kick, and you're making Zach Wilson have to drive the length of the field for a touchdown.

Problem was, Gano hooked the kick.
