Precisely why I did my taxes as early as possible. Already have my federal and state refunds in the bank account.
The wife kept to her routine of handling it during her February school vacation. I wanted to fight it, but sometimes idiocy needs to resolve itself.

The IRS is among the agencies closed during any government shutdown. During one of Trump's shutdowns last time, I noticed some checks I'd sent in to settle an old bill weren't be cashed and couldn't reach anyone on the phone. Ended up calling my congresscritter's office, which intervened on my behalf to get answers.
