Problems at Patch.com

RonClements said:
The Patch sites in St. Louis haven't hired a freelance reporter since October. Money isn't exactly coming in.

Seems like that's where a lot of the negative information comes from, former "employees" who are complaining because they stopped getting their freelance assignments.

And replaced by high-quality content like "Obama is going to take your stuff."

So, do we need a thread for every time one of us sees crappy content, including letters to the editor, in a newspaper? Happens quite a bit there, too.

It's not a letter to the editor. You should keep up.

A blog entry on Patch is the equivalent of a letter to the editor in a newspaper. YOU should try to keep up.

Except that Patch doesn't sell it as a letter to the editor. Patch wants you to believe this is real life "citizen journalist" content. Not that newspapers aren't guilty of doing the same thing.

If you can't tell the difference between a blog entry and an actual article, you are beyond help.

"This is an important time for Patch."

But only if you work for Patch.

I love the mission Armstrong states -- "to improve the lives of people in local communities by 25 percent."

At most I've noticed a 14 percent improvement in my life and I think only about half of that is attributable to Patch.
