Richmond, Virginia

Pastor:

It's not that there's not much going on downtown (you can find stuff to do in the Slip...hey, the Omni might be an option then) it's that you can find stuff out West too. Cap Ale House, other bars, other restaurants, etc.

Check the Omni. I think it's on 12th and Cary. It's pretty nice, and it's right smack dab in the middle of the Slip/Bottom area. Plenty of nice restaurants/bars around that area. It's right across the street from The Tobacco Company.

Either my wife is sending off strong brainwaves or what, but I just came back in to ask about... The Omni.

Thank you for the preemptive post about a place we were looking at!

there's also The Berkley, a very nice hotel in the same area as the Omni. A bit more expensive, though.

I have heard the Jefferson does a great Sunday Brunch. It's pricy, though.

For a much cheaper price, Pastor can just walk down Robinson Street and go into the first place he finds for a quality brunch.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with having Buddy's, brunch and quality in such proximity.

Also, does it make me a bad Richmonder if I say that Strawberry Street Cafe is overrated? It's not bad, but once you get past the novelty of the bathtub salad bar and this otherworldly dessert involving vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two slices of chocolate chip pound cake and drenched in deep chocolate sauce, I always leave there poorer and somewhat let down.

Millie's is the preeminent brunch in town -- Jenna Bush gives it two thumbs up as she throws down Jagerbombs with each hand -- but you'd have to get in line right about ... now in order to get a table for Saturday brunch. And in 20 minutes for Sunday brunch.

Millie's is worth the wait.

There's a new Hilton Garden Inn across from the Marriott that might be a cheaper alternative. But unless you are in town to see something at the Coliseum or do something at the Convention Center, there's NO reason to stay there. None. Not too long ago, a pastor got robbed at the Marriott.

Omni is a better location, as are the West End locales already mentioned.

Downtown Richmond does not exist.

And if you're in town, at least through the airport, look me up!
Sorry, I'm driving.

Okay then. I think the Omni it is!

That is interesting. I'm not sure what to make of that.

There's no there there.
Head to the slip.
A couple of theaters and music halls have opened up. Some people are trying. But a long way to go.
Cracker concert at the National next Sunday.

Pastor I highly recommend Casa de Drip-Richmond. The price is right the the food is excellent.
Seriously, Moddy's recommendation about downtown is on the money. Be careful in the Slip. It can be an adventure.
