RIP Burt Young

RIP, Paulie and Lou.

My two favorite Paulie moments are from Rocky IV:

— After giving the heartfelt speech to Rocky in the tunnel before the Drago fight, they get to the ring and Paulie goes, "Remember what I said about wanting to be you? Forget it!"
— "I see three of him out there!" "Hit the one in the middle!"

I posted the deleted scene from Rocky Balboa earlier but a couple of my favorite Pauline moments:

— From Rocky III, when Rocky is getting clobbered by Thunderlips, Paulie yells out, "Rocko, remember the neighborhood!"

— In Rocky Balboa, Duke talks about what Rocky needs to train and how Rocky has calcium deposits on his hands. Paulie says, "I had that problem."

— Same film, Paulie gets the arena to play Sinatra's "High Hopes" for Rocky's entrance. Paulie is like, hey, it's a good song, as Rocky reluctantly agrees.

He was good as a shiftless alcoholic single dad with a 10-year-old daughter in a Rockford Files episode. For most of the storyline he's a complete forkup and the little girl really does more to save their skins, but at the end he shocks everyone by playing a key role in Rockford's rescue plan.

Kind of like Paulie, really.Three-quarters of the time he's pretty much a dipship, but every so often he shows he's a good guy.

"So this is Russia. Don' look so tough to me, Rock!"

That was the scene where he didn't even have to say anything. I was cracking up the second he got out of the car, stepped into four feet of snow and started helplessly screaming.

He was in episode of M*A*S*H, investigating a GI who wanted to marry a Korean girl.

There's another great, quick shot in Rocky III -- probably an accident that they left in -- that cracks me up.
Between rounds in the second fight against Clubber, Rocky comes to the corner all psyched up. Paulie is holding the spit bucket, but Rocky spits before Paulie has it in position. The slobber goes all over Paulie's shirt as he looks down like, "What the hell, Rock!?"

Also liked at the end of the fight in the original, where he's getting accosted by the cop on the ring apron and slyly holds the ropes open for Adrian to climb through.
Couple of great non-verbal character moments.
