Evaluating a Tour pro's chances in an April tournament off his form in early February is like forecasting the winner of the 2029 World Series off of Opening Day 2025. Form at that level comes and goes awfully fast.
He has those expectations every time he tees it up. Prive of being so good. But that doesn't mean he'll be in the form he was today come April. He could play well and finish 10th or 15th. Just the nature of the sport. He could win it, too, but that's not the way to bet, at least not now.That's a bit of an exaggeration for guys at the very top. Rory will play probably 5-6 more times before the Masters and short of shooting 10 over in all of them, the sky-high expectations aren't going anywhere.

I don't do futures bets. I want to see the paddock parade before I go to the window. Just an old horseplayer's habit.He's 10-1 at DraftKings right now to win the Masters -- now would absolutely be the time to bet him (if you don't think he's snakebitten at Augusta, as I think he is). Bagging another couple wins before April will drop that number, whereas short of an injury the number won't go up because the bookies aren't about to take exposure on Rory at 20-1 or whatever.
Did you see Cam Davis' shot on 18 out of Cypress tree roots? Amazing.
That's if you can see theroots. A dangerous number of. golf course trees on Cape Cod have roots juusst below the ground, aching to make contact with your club.That was nuts. My Dad tried a shot out of tree roots once and it bounced up and hit him right above his nose. Scared the crap out of him and he had to sit in the cart for a while, knowing he was that close to losing an eye. Anytime I see that kind of lie now in a casual game, it's a free drop.
Forgot to add, that approach on 8, CBS showed nice drone shots, I hit 5 wood from 190.. 3ft. Probably best shot of my life. (Yes I did make putt for birdie)It truly is a beautiful slice of the world.
A couple of things about Pebble that IMHO are hard to imagine from TV:
the 2nd shot up hill on Par 5 6th; pros make it seem routine, it's not, you've got to hit it about 40 ft up and it feels like 100;
the 2nd shot approach over the ravine on 8, feels like you've got zero room right and you're hitting over a chasm;
Lastly, the tee shot on 18 with ocean left, many holes on the water everywhere but nothing feels as close to the ocean. Plus it's a Par 5 so you get more time to enjoy the walk. What a way to finish.
Enjoy the telecast this weekend.
