I think this is why Laviolette was pissed. I think he thought it was going to be Rempe and MacDermid, but the Devils had other ideas. If he knew it was going to be an all out brawl, he probably would have kept Trouba and Miller off the ice. It's not that surprising, the Devils were pissed and they really have nothing else to play for at this point.

Travis Green tells it differently. He says the Rangers were lining up fights and if the Devils wanted that brawl not sure why they had Marino on the ice. Miler and Trouba can hod their own and I imagine Laviollete didn't foresee the 4 others getting tossed.

The Rempe-MacDermid fight makes sense within the odd culture of the NHL. But I'm not really sure this required everyone getting involved. If I'm in charge of the Rangers I certainly don't want guys who actually play and rarely fight, like Trouba and Miller, getting into fights and potentially breaking a hand or something like that when the playoffs are this close.

I get your Marino point, but Miller has never fought anyone despite his size. Braden Schneider would have been out there if they thought there was going to be a brawl.

Or maybe the players were kind of acting in the moment. Obviously Vesey and Lazar talked it over before the puck was dropped and dove right at each other when the puck was dropped, and Rempe and Macdermid were going to go. Barkley Goodrow usually doesn't need much prodding. It was actually the defensemen who skated around a bit before they found each other.

One of the best parts of Pang between between the benches during Rangers games is Artemi Panarin reaching over throughout the game and taking the cups of gatorade Pang had lined up for himself. He did it right after the line brawl.

It's been an ongoing thing whenever TNT is doing a Rangers game.

FWIW, TNT's coverage of the line brawl was horrifically bad when I watched this morning. Rather than zooming out so you could see the chaos, the camera person was singularly focused on Rempe and MacDermid. At one point they left the brawl for a few seconds to show Shesterkin picking up equipment from the ice for some reason.

Just saw the highlights of this and thought the same thing. I kept wondering when they were going to zoom out, and they never did.
I was a little disappointed the goalies stayed out of it. That's always fun when they're obligated to get involved.

Another night in the Eastern Conference playoff race where all the contenders for the last spot (Caps, Flyers, Wings) lost. At least the Caps lost to the Canes and the Wings to the Rangers so that's at least a good excuse, but the Wings have done a lot of not winning of "must-win" games in the last month.

The only team that looks interested in actually seizing a playoff spot is the Zombie Penguins, who were left for dead a month ago and suddenly have substantial momentum.

The Penguins did what they hav been doing all season today against the Lightning, blowing a 4-1 lead, but scored late and held on for another victory. That would be eight in a row if not for a couple of blown leads in games that went to overtime. Crosby and Malkin are trying to carry the Pens to the postseason, but I wouldn't say they are actually good.

Blues goalie Jordan Binnington earned a strip for his "I"M AN ASSHOLE" sweatshirt Sunday night. He whacked Ducks winger Ross Johnston over the head with his blocker from behind. Johnston just took a high-sticking penalty and after the whistle several players were bunched together in front of the net. There was some minor pushing. Binnington was behind the pack and took two blocker shots at Johnston.
