Prominent Las Vegas attorney, wife killed by another attorney in law firm shooting: report

I can't believe two attorneys would be representing themselves or family members in a custody dispute, but it just sounds like a bad idea to being with. Attorney A (apparently representing his son) shoots and kills former daughter-in-law and her new husband/attorney at the deceased's law office at a hearing before turning the gun on himself.

I'm thankful my current job allows me to truthfully tell family that I am legally prohibited from representing them. When I had my own practice, I was routinely getting requests to represent family members with an expectation that it would be free or majorly discounted.

Trying to explain why that's a bad idea almost never goes over well.

"This is a highly important matter with potentially significant consequences. Can you do this for no money in your free time?"

Not all mass murderers carry guns, 6 persons stabbed to death in Australia.

I was on the other side of the city Saturday when it happened, and hated that my first thought was, wow, that could have been a lot worse.

A few stories of true heroism are emerging from the horror. A man with a bollard confronted the perpetrator and stopped the escalator he was on, keeping him from going up another level. And when he approached a cop with his knife up, she calmly held her ground and took the motherforker down.
