Selection Sunday thread

My only case is handling your business in the league.

Arkansas 7-9
Syracuse 10-6

If you want to offset that Arkansas went to the Final of the SEC tourney .. well, they didn't beat any NCAA tourney teams to get there. *EDIT - my bad. Beat Vandy. If you're looking at the body of work, then winning in your own league probably should count some.

Arkansas lost to Texas Tech. Kansas State beat Texas Tech. KSU should have the Hogs' spot. [/Diggershouldretire]

K-State also swept Mizzou (which beat Arkansas 84-64) and Texas (which beat Arkansas 80-76). Not that common opponents means anything, but that did happen.

I don't really care either way, to be honest. I just thought it was hilarious when Digger was using TT as his main measuring stick, since he's been fellating Bobby for decades.

If they played in the same league, against equivalent schedules, that might have some merit.
They don't.

Illinois 6-9 agaisnt tournament teams (including wins over 16th seeds Jackson st. and Florida A.M. and 14th seed Miami (oh)).

Syracuse 5-5 agaisnt tourney teams. Lost to Witchita St. and Ok St. by a combined 7 points w/o starting pg devendorf (14.1 ppg 4.1 ast.). Also had the fourth hardest schedule in Big East. They did not play Seton Hall this year, and only played South Florida and Cincinatti once. Finished the year at 7-3 over last ten. Stanford 4-6 B.C. 5-5 (3-5 last eight), Kentucky 4-6.

At least Syracuse had a winning road record. Purdue 3-9 on the road this year with only notable win at oklahoma.

Cuse 5th out of 16 Big East Teams, Arkansas tied with two other teams for 8th in 12 team Sec. Only two teams had a worse conference record.

Newsday's Anthony Rieber has to be an SportsJournalists.com regular.
This line is practically SportsJournalists.com code, maybe not "Good enough to work at the Plain Dealer" good, but not bad. A super-secret shoutout to JDV.
Hot off the LATWP wire ...
Well, last season, Iona played in the NCAA Tournament and nearly upset Duke or Kansas or UCLA or one of those powerhouse teams. (OK, I Googled it, and it was LSU. And Iona lost by 16. Whatever.)

And I don't live in New York, but this is hilarious...
Step No. 2 revolves around Christopher ``Mad Dog'' Russo. Make sure you have a pen and paper handy when you listen to New York radio station WFAN this week for his analysis of the tournament field. Award one point to each school if Russo can't pronounce its name; award two points if he can't pronounce the nickname; and make it three if he also butchers the coach's name (Give Duke a point now for Krzyzewski). Any school that gets three points -- that's a Final Four school.

Purdue's Oklahoma win was in Maui. So not even a road win there.

The only smart thing Vitale has said - since the Tennessee radio call-in debacle - is that Arkansas has no business being in the tourney after winning just seven league games in the **** SEC division.

Syracuse won 10 league games in a better conference.

This is ridiculous. Arkansas' league wins were over Vandy (twice, a No. 6 seed in this tournament), Alabama (twice, a 20-win team), Mississippi State (twice, 18 wins), Auburn (17 wins), LSU (17 wins).
Sorry, but South Florida, Cincinnati and Seton Hall do not stack up to that.

And syracuse beat georgetown 26 win, (thier only loss in the past Sixteen games) , Marquette 24, Nova 22, Depaul 18, Prov 18, U Conn (twice) 17 wins. They did not play Seton Hall and only played Cincinnati and South Florida once.
