Selection Sunday thread

Kansas State did not get robbed. One impressive road win (at Texas). The USC win was at a neutral site. Only five wins over the top 100. Kansas State didn't deserve to be in the field.

I still would have taken them rather than Arkansas.

And not that KU should complain about a No. 1 seed, but help me on this. KU has one more win, one less loss than the Gators. KU won regular season and tournament crowns in its conference, just the same as Florida. But KU also beat the Gators on a neutral court this season, and we know the committee took head-to-head wins into account because it said so with at least ODU-Drexel.

So why do the Gators get the overall No. 1 and by far the easiest path to Atlanta, while KU goes out West to play the Bruins in their home state (if it gets that far, of course)?

Whatever, you've got to win six games anyway.

Probably because Florida is the defending national champion and, with this starting five, has won 12 consecutive conference and NCAA tourney games.

So KU beating the Gators this season doesn't carry as much weight as what the Gators did one year ago?

Never knew past seasons/tournaments had anything to do with the current season's selections. That's a new one. Thought they went with the results, stats, polls, etc. specific to the current season.

If at all possible, one of the service academies ought to be represented.

Air Force shirt the bed down the stretch and Army and Navy are absymal, so unless the Merchant Marines or Coast Guard have something up their sleeves ...

Not defending any of Niagara's legal issues, but they have a legit beef with the play-in game. Their RPI is better than at least five teams in and their conference RPI is 23 of 31. They beat a No. 13 seed -- Holy Cross -- and won 11 in a row to close the season. FAMU should be pissed. They're going to get drilled.

Air Force only got screwed if you consider the treatment they got last year to be normal. The Force is where it belongs.

How in the heck hasn't Air Force won a conference tournament game EVER in the Mountain West Conference? Truly remarkable considering it's been decent the past few years.

I heard on the radio this morning that the NCAA does not want to traditionally black schools to face one another in the play-in game for political reasons. Even if that's the case, Niagara is a 14 or 15, not a play-in. Iona was a 13 out of the MAAC last year. Niagara was a 14 in '05.

Well, the Mountain West has only existed a few years and Air Force has been abysmal and tends to wear down at the end of the year.

Makes sense on the committee not wanting to turn the play-in game into a battle of HBCs as this year's RPI bottom would have been Jackson State and FAMU. Nevertheless, drop CCSU into the damn thing ... or North Texas, as both have worse RPI than Niagara.
