Sox fan in enemy territory

Wear your gear. Don't sell you pride for your safety. Be there. Be loud. Be ready for the abuse. That's part of the fun of going to Yankee Stadium. Whenever I'm there, I root for the opposing team, whether it be the Mets or the Angels.

I'd be with that if you're going with the boys, but I think it's a little different with the girl. I don't know how anyone else, but I could take some good-natured ribbing from a few drunks, but I'm much more protective of my girlfriend.

Went to Yankee Stadium weeks ago and quite a few people razzed me when they saw the Royals cap and Rock Chalk Jayhawk T-shirt. My two basic responses worked every time -- "No one can call me a bandwagon fan" and "At least it's not a Red Sox cap." To which they would say, "darn right," or "You're ballsy for wearing that," shake my hand and wish the Royals good luck because they would need it, reminding me that they suck. All good-natured, of course, probably because they found it cute/amazing the Royals still had fans that wear their true colors to Yankee Stadium.

Something tells me you could wear Red Sox gear and still be OK. I just wouldn't talk smack from start to finish. I would take a more cautioned approach.

Someone said where the seats are located might matter. The seats are in Section 53, Row U, if that helps. Behind Monument Park. BTW, when is Monument Park open before the game?
I think Monument Park is open when the park opens... about 90 minutes before first pitch. There's gonna be a line.. get there early.

I don't even think you need to keep your mouth shut. You just need to keep the trash talk good-natured.

Well, that's the key any time you're a visiting fan.

Closest I've ever come to getting into a fight happened at Arrowhead. I was in line for a beer, with a Terrible Towel hanging out of my back pocket. I smelled something burning and turned around to see a Chiefs fan trying to set the Towel on fire with his Zippo. I knocked the Zippo out of his hand, picked it up and chucked it out of the concourse and into the parking lot. He started to come at me, but a cop who saw the whole thing walked up right then.

Yankee fans are by far the most obnoxious road fans around, so give em hell.

I was surrounded by the Baskets at a home Indians game Sunday. Just unrelenting bullship pouring out of their mouths. Disrespectful in every manner, including their choice of fashion which includes no sleeves and open-chested baseball jerseys.

The sad thing is, us Tribe fans were outnumbered. If this had been the 80s or early 90s, there would've been some deserved ash-kickings going on in the bleachers, but the only people who come to the game to support the Tribe are white suburban families and old farts.

No way. To me, Red Sox fans have them beat, easily.

You absolutely deserved that.

Granted I'm a Browns fans, but you wouldn't see me with a dog mask on waiting in line for nachos at an opposing team's stadium. There's absolutely no clash involved in getting decked out for away games. You're just looking for trouble if you do that.

I need some advice here.

On Aug. 30, I'm going to a Red Sox-Yankees game at the Stadium. It's a Thursday afternoon game. My girlfriend and I are both sitting in the bleachers. I'm a Red Sox fan, and she roots for the Red Sox because I do. It says 'alchohol' on the tickets, so I'm guessing that means alcohol is allowed in our section.

My question is, how safe would it be for my girlfriend and I to wear Red Sox gear (caps and shirts) in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium? I went to a Red Sox-Yankees game at the Stadium late last season and saw plenty of people wearing Red Sox stuff. But we were sitting on the first-base side toward the back, and the Red Sox were out of contention by then. I have a feeling it might be a different animal in the bleachers, with the teams most likely neck-and-neck in the standings.

Any thoughts?

google this...(sorry but i cant seem to post the link)

You wouldn't wear a single item of Browns gear at an away stadium? Not even a tee shirt?

I guess it depends if you're serious about the girlfriend. Trying to get rid of her but she's not getting the hint? Put in her all the Sox gear you can find while you go with the subtle Red Sox golf shirt. She can't say you're not wearing the colors, and you can say "gosh, I didn't know they'd give you a hard time..."

I do the same at Fenway. I usually go to the souvenir shop across the street and buy the hat of whoever is visiting that day. I have a nice little collection of New Eras by now. I root vociferously, but it's always in good fun. I occasionally get peanuts thrown at me, but I expect it, I deserve it and I laugh about it.

Note, there is no alcohol served in that section, so that should curb some of the problems.

And I believe Monument Park is open from 90 mins before game time until 30 mins before.

Like hell he deserved it. He didn't antagonize anyone, he was simply waiting in line. It doesn't surprise me to hear that the story happened at Arrowhead Stadium, though.

After the Steelers lost an overtime wild card game there 14 years ago, I made the slow walk back to the car to thaw out with Chiefs fans I went to the game with. Head down, bummed out, not saying anything. And yet some guy dumps his beer on me only because I happen to be wearing my Greg Lloyd jersey. I did nothing to deserve it. This guy was just an ashhole, like the one Inky crossed during his trip to KC.
