Ukraine Always Get What You Want

Like the posts above, this piece for The Atlantic shows the disgusting face of our country now. It's a hard read for any normal Americans, but, as the article contends, it needs to be known, and faced. As the article also says, we will have to clean up the mess. ashuming we survive it.

At Least Now We Know the Truth

At least the Oval Office meeting held by President Donald Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was held in front of the cameras. False friendliness in public by Trump and Vance, followed by behind-the-scenes treachery, would have been much more dangerous to the Ukrainian cause....

Both the president and vice president showed the U.S.-led alliance system something it needed urgently to know: The national-security system of the West is led by two men who cannot be trusted to defend America's allies—and who deeply sympathize with the world's most aggressive dictator...

We're witnessing the self-sabotage of the United States. "America First" always meant America alone, a predatory America whose role in the world is no longer based on democratic belief. America voted at the United Nations earlier this week against Ukraine, siding with Russia and China against almost all of its fellow democracies. Is this who Americans want to be? For this is what America is being turned into....

The American people need to reckon with the mess Trump and Vance are making of this country's once-good name—and the services they are performing for dictators and aggressors. There may not be a deep cause here. Trump likes and admires bad people because he is himself a bad person. When Vance executed his personal pivot from Never Trump to Always Trump, he needed a way to prove that he had truly crossed over to the dark side beyond any possibility of reversion or redemption; perhaps his support for Russia allowed him to do that. But however shallow their motives, the consequences are profound...

The good and great America that once inspired global admiration—that good and great America still lives. But it no longer commands a consensus above party. The pro-Trump party exposed its face to the world in the Oval Office today. Nobody who saw that face will ever forget the grotesque sight.

Dow is down another 550 so far today.
It has rebounded - for now - to "just" down 326, or about 0.75 percent. I think the effect of Trump tariffs will be more of a slow trickle throughout the next year, as pretty much any company that does international business will have to account for increased costs thanks to their supply chain.

With "friends" like Trump and Vance, who needs enemies? Of course they still are interested in extorting Ukraine for its minerals! Of course only Ukraine is in the wrong, not Russia! There should be no "conditions" on any aid to Ukraine, you stupid ashes. I can't believe these idiots are making all the decisions in this country. Why is there not more push-back, more morals, more basic human decency? There is just no explanation or excuse.

"The President is trying to send a very explicit message, the Ukrainians have got to come to the table and start negotiating with President Trump for the mineral deal," Vance emphasised.

When asked whether he believes a deal on rare minerals is still possible, Vance said: "I certainly do".

"And I think the President is still committed to the mineral deal. I think we've heard some positive things, but not yet, of course, a signature from our friends in Ukraine," he noted.

If I'm Ukraine, I tell Baby Hands to go fork himself. I kinda hope Europe does, too.

Shush, Donnie. The adults are talking.

The U.S. must continue aid to Ukraine, and must, absolutely must, demand and negotiate for Russia's exit from Ukraine, the country it attacked, unprovoked, on Feb. 24, 2022. I agree with this opinion piece.

"A shining city upon a hill" — in the words of John Winthrop and Ronald Reagan, America has long been a nation guided by principle and purpose. To uphold this legacy, we cannot fail the simplest of tests: recognizing, condemning and deterring international aggression.

Russia's war on Ukraine will end when Moscow stops waging it. Yet, three years in, political discourse in Washington has muddied what should be obvious to a child: the war cannot be resolved with a handshake or a simple "deal."

This is an unprovoked war of aggression — a criminal act. Only the Russian invader — which kidnaps children, beheads prisoners of war, deploys North Korean troops and procures ballistic missiles from Iran — can end it.

A third world war looms, and the sole force holding it back is Ukraine's unyielding courage — the willingness of Ukraine's bravest sons and daughters to sacrifice everything for freedom. We can't ask more of Kyiv, but we can and must demand more from Moscow.

Fatfork isn't going to demand anything from Putin except maybe a warning tap on the top of his head before he unloads down his throat.

Unless it trips the circuit breakers, discussing the midday market numbers is like doing a deep dive on the halftime score.

Ok then, try this. The Dow is down 2,244 over the last three months. I am seeing nothing at all that makes me think it won't continue to drop, other than the odd "buy the dips" rally.
