Week 1 College Football Thread: Seven Years of College Station Down the Drain

At least, not with Brian Kelly as coach.

Two of the five losses in the current streak came under Ed Orgeron (2020 at home vs. Mississippi State, 2021 at UCLA).

This wasn't as bad as the last four Week 1 losses, when they got absolutely destroyed amd embarrassed. Even the 2022 loss to Florida State that came down to the last play, they looked terrible until the fourth quarter. This one, they did some good things and just got beat by a peer team that is ranked in the top 25 in a close game. It happens. I feel much better about their long-term prospects coming out of this loss, especially with the new playoff format, than I did any of those other losses when it was obvious the ceiling was nine wins and the idea of making the playoff was dead by Labor Day.

They play UCLA in Baton Rouge in two weeks, in the return home and home game from 2021, with South Carolina before that. If they can't wash off the stink from this one by winning both of those, it's going to get intense down Louisiana way.

I wonder how much AI computer power it took to dub in the Herbstreit tagline? Ain't no way that was already in the can.

IIRC they started tailoring the tagline to some team last year. Not sure if they were generic enough to plug in at any time.

Miami may have been tough, but the water bottle cap was even tougher.

Counterpoint: If she is already at the breaking point for the season opening FCS cupcake, the marriage was never going to survive conference play regardless.
