Coup attempt in Turkey

Yeah, the point is that Erdogan has been going nuts since this happened (and actually since before it happened) curtailing rights and cracking down on his perceived enemies.

Hmm, cleaning house on college administrators? Maybe we really should let him come take care of things in Pennsylvania.

College administrators plus "399 employees of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies..." and "...thousands of others suspended from the police force, the military, Finance Ministry and other public sector positions." Because, you know, I'm sure those family policy employees were totally in on the coup.

The man is going completely off the rails.

He's got a crisis and he's not going to let it go to waste. The fact that he's scooping up every real, rumored, or perceived enemy and locking them up does tend to make you wonder if this was a false flag operation providing the excuse.

I don't doubt there was a genuine coup attempt, however inept, against Erdogan because he's (reportedly at least) been behaving in an increasingly more insular, paranoid manner and causing concern among Turks who sense that the country's secular democracy is threatened by his actions.

He's also a bit of a big spender.

Inside Turkey tyrant's £500million palace which is dripping in gold

I'm starting to suspect he staged the coup ...

He could still stand to take lessons from Saddam on how to amass power and instill fear and loyalty among subjects.

Yeah, we have an extradition treaty with Turkey that includes due process provisions.

This guy is a piece of work:

If anyone's looking for a place to send a resume, I hear there's plenty of new openings in Turkey:

"The early signs are bad. A day after the failed coup, Erdogan dismissed 2,745 judges and prosecutors. How did he know exactly who to fire in one day? Did he already have an enemies list? To date, he has now reportedly purged 1,500 university deans, revoked the licenses of 21,000 teachers and either purged or detained nearly 35,000 members of the military, security forces and judiciary as part of his "cleansing" of coup supporters."
