Western Virginia recommenation

Hmm. Not sure why you're blocked. I'll try to look at the settings and figure it out.

If he's in ROTC, the process is fairly simple. Make good grades, do well on evaluations at Cadet Summer Training during the summer following his junior year, and score high on his physical fitness tests. Grades make up the largest portion of the ranking system that leads to branch selections.

He'll also need to take and score well on the SIFT, the selection test used to select aviators. I'm pretty sure he'll have to have a Class 1 flight physical.
That involves submerged escape training, doesn't it?

Also, Blacksburg and Charlottesville aren't on 81. Big detour. Going to Charlottesville would be easier on a trip to DC. The area between Charlottesville and DC is very pretty and a nice drive.
I know this doesn't matter and might even be outdated, but Blacksburg is less than 10 miles away from 81. That's not a big detour, at least the way Charlottesville is.

It always amused me that UVA and VT are both on exit 118 of different interstates.

When I lived in the Commonwealth and they SoCon mates, I always thought you'd have to be crazy to go to VMI or The Citadel. Their plebe year is much more abusive than the service academies.

The corps would come to Richmond for a football game and it was like they got let out of jail. Reading Conroy's books about The Citadel did nothing to change my mind. But a high school friend (Navy family) had two sons attend VMI and they loved it.
I knew a guy who was a professor at VMI. He thought the students in general were a little cynical and not serious. Another thing was the percentage who go on to the armed services was way down. The State Department was a goal for a lot of them.

That's weird. For some reason I remember the trip being much longer.

How has nobody pointed out that his quality of life is about to go way up living in a Sheetz/Wawa overlap zone?

Northern Virginia is practically a dead zone for both, believe it or not.

There's a new Wawa in Fairfax City, but that's pretty much it unless you go south of Woodbridge or west of Manassas, each of which are an hour's drive from me most days.

The closest Sheetz I can think of is in Frederick, MD, which is at least an hour without traffic.

There's a trifling, terrible 7-11 on every street corner, though. Lucky us.

There is both a Sheetz and Wawa in Woodbridge. Get off at the Prince William County Parkway exit off 95 and take the Caton Hill Road exit. Fairly close to each other. I think we're considering PWC NOVA at least.

So, all centered around Potomac Mills? Forgot about that one. The Wawa I'm thinking of is off Route 1 on the other side, by IKEA.

I consider that NOVA, but it's such a huge pain in the ass to get to that I'd never go just for Wawa. Or Sheetz.

To my knowledge, there are no Wawas or Sheetz inside the Beltway, or for probably 15 miles in every direction outside it, save for the new Fairfax location.

There's a Wawa in Tenleytown, right by the Metro. There used to be one in Georgetown on Wisconsin Avenue, but it closed!

It's not just a wawa or sheetz that's a pain in the ass.

If you're up inside the Beltway and headed out of town (like to Fredericksburg, for example), there's basically no place to stop if you've got to pee. Gas stations are all sketchy at best, maybe with a "Paying customers only!" bathroom for which you must get the key from the attendent.

If you're driving through DC down 95, you better find a bathroom before the Beltway, or hold it until you get basically to the Dale City rest stop.
