MLB 2024-25 Hot Stove Thread

They're going to pay him and it makes no sense. They did the exact same thing with arod. With every long term contract, there's an awareness that you need to overpay for back end years in order to get their prime years. The roy halladay contract was so unusual because he didn't make them do that and just took the short term deal for just his prime. When they opt out after the best years, you thank them for their service, wish them luck, and thank your lucky stars.
This is not what smart teams do.

I'm going to guess that they do the deal because if they don't the signal to Soto might be a bad one and he wants out.

Now I think Soto goes to the highest bidder regardless but if the Mets and Yankees are relatively close, maybe he stays because he liked the experience as a Yankee, they were three wins from a title, etc. But if they let Cole walk, how serious will he think they are.

They have until midnight to exercise their option, but if they haven't done it by now, I'm kind of assuming they aren't going to. They've known today was coming and it's a binary decision. I have to believe they already know whether they want to pick it up. The fact that they haven't means they aren't going to.

I hope you're right, and they don't get cold feet. And I like Cole.

"You sure you don't want to retake that picture, Zack?"
"Nope, it's good as is!"
I'm no heartthrob so I shouldn't judge, but the Minasian brothers are not in the running for most handsome GM.

Sort of like Cosmos in the old NASL, but without Pele and Chinaglia.

With the Rays looking homeless, who had two American League teams playing in minor league stadiums for 2025 on their Manfred Bingo scorecard?
