2023-24 Running NBA thread

Kerr is a treasure. Let's not forget that instead you could have Carlesimo or Van Gundy or MJax there….(shudder)

I can't help but wonder what this team would look like if Dreymond didn't punch Poole. That team just came off the title. They don't win without Poole. Whatever it was that set Dreymond off, if he had pulled Poole aside and said, "look, this is going to be your team soon. Steph isn't going to be here forever. Here's how you act after title. Everyone is coming for us. We need you to step up."

Instead, Poole is shipped off and is really seeing what life is like without guys like Dreymond and Steph to cover up mistakes. And imagine how much easier the Klay decision is if they say "well, we can just put Poole into that spot."

Could it be Kerr not holding Dreymond accountable early on in his career? Who knows. But Kerr got Klay to buy in coming off the bench and Kerr understood the death lineup that lead to the first title and got KD to come over. And he got Poole who is turning into a bum to look like someone special.

It was hard to believe when they moved on from Jackson because he led them to 50 wins and a playoff appearance. But Kerr has 4 title and Jackson is still announcing. Says a lot right there.

I was thinking how many teams in the East would right now be favored in a playoff series with the Lakers, Pels or even Warriors? I'm not sure more than 1

Boston and then it's toss up. Maybe the top 3 over the Pels. Warriors I would probably take the home teams over them.

Ideal scenario for Silver. Ban hammer example made of a marginal role player to send a message to everyone else.

Ideal scenario for Adam Silver would have been it never happening in the first place. It makes the NBA look bad.

Of course it's easier to ban someone nobody gives a shirt about than a star player, but I wouldn't call this an ideal scenario for the league. It looks bad.

I also think that given the possibility of this or embracing the sports gambling craze, up front they would have been all in on gambling and the money they are making no matter what. It's just too good of a cash grab.

They'll try to minimize this and make it go away, the same way they were able to with Tim Donaghy.

The question is if at some point enough things like this will run into flagging interest in the NBA and it ends up biting them in the ass.

I hadn't consider that it was "ideal" for the NBA that it involved a scrub and not a star player. I am sure Adam Silver would have preferred a betting scandal that forced him to ban Nikola Jokic.

Also helps that this guy was a complete dumbass. It's not like that there was much gray area.
