2024-25 College Basketball Thread

A not-so-good Ball State team beat Kent State yesterday at Kent. Lots of mediocrity in the MAC this year.

Ohio was picked to win it and the Bobcats are a mess right now. When in doubt, assume Akron will win it.

Why coaches drink.
  • Minnesota up three late in overtime. Announcers note that the Gophers got burned in a previous game by not fouling to prevent a trey, speculate whether they will change strategy.
  • Gophers foul, but with 7.7 seconds left on clock. Ohio State makes 1-of-2 and sends Minnesota back to line.
  • UM misses the first free throw. Before the next shot Ben Johnson signals for his team to foul again after a make.
  • Second shot also missed. Buckeyes grab the rebound and kid for Minnesota promptly fouls in backcourt.
  • Buckeyes make both to tie and send it to 2 OT.

Oh, I forgot to mention the Gophers went a hearty 12-for-27 at the foul line.

Minnesota basketball has two hands tied behind its back NIL-wise to begin with in comparison to some of the other Big Ten schools.

The last thing the Gophers need are those kinds of brain farts to cost them the few games they will win this season in conference play.

I don't think Ben Johnson is a bad coach, but he might be the first one to test the theory of whether missing the Big Ten Tournament is a fireable offense. Minnesota, Washington and one of USC, Rutgers might be joining them on the outs come March in Indy.

There should be a documentary someday on how Rutgers is managing to be this sorry with two lottery picks.

Harper has been hurt (sick, actually) the last two games. Bailey was almighty against Indiana, but far less so against Wisconsin.

Even with them both, they're a two-man team and that won't cut it in the Big Ten.

Apparently the students who came back a week early to support Florida against the top-ranked team in America got their seats sold out from underneath them.

Georgia leading Kentucky 47-34 at the half in Athens. Bulldogs scored 51 for the game in a loss at Ole Miss over the weekend. Sports.
