I never disputed that Cooper Flagg was an excellent player but last night was my first time watching Duke for extended minutes this season. He is Him and we ain't got one of those.

My first look at him and all I could think was, "why does he have to play for a program I can't stand like Duke?"

Possible, although I'd lean more towards 6-for-20. Goal is 30 attempts and 10 makes a game but if going inside is the better way to score against a team we will go that route. Interior passing is Bama's most underrated skill.

At some point in the game I sent a text to a friend, noting Alabama had taken 39 3's and 11 2's. Then I turned off the TV. Completely unwatchable.

Don't get this line of complaint you hear pretty frequently.

Like it was the height of entertainment to watch centers post up endlessly back in the old days. (And I say that as someone who doesn't hate 2s, but I also don't hate teams that foist 3s if they can hit them.)

If anything, if you're shooting close to 50% from 3-point range, your ratio shouldn't be 39-11, it ought to be 50-0. Twenty-five threes is 75 points on 50 shots.

I love the way Nate Oats and some others like him coach. If you can run a system that maximizes the advantages the game gives you, why on Earth would anyone knock it?

Both teams sprinted up and down the court the entire game. And a poster here turned that game off??

Against St. Mary's they only attempted 17 shots from deep because the Gaels were determined to run them off the line. Last night BYU packed the paint determined to stop drives to the basket and refused to come over ball screens to contest the 3.

Maybe Alabama is just really good at offense and it isn't a gimmick. But if you want to watch people play like the mid-90s Knicks, enjoy.

I'm old enough to remember when the 3-point line became part of the game (1986-87 season). The math then was simple: You make 40% of your threes, your opponent has to make 60% of its twos.
Nate Oats' philosophy is to take only threes or layups/dunks/offensive follows. Bigs set perimeter screens; defenders either go under the screens (resulting in a good look for a three) or the big is open rolling to the basket for a dunk.
Alabama practices that way and against BYU, it was damn-near perfect.
Those who think the arc needs to move back because the shots are too easy: BYU was 6-of-30 (20%), combined 3-point percentage of the other six teams that played was 38.4%.
I prefer to marvel at Alabama getting open threes and making them. Not every team can do that.
