I can't imagine going weeks and weeks (or months and months) without running water.

It's going to be bad for a long time. My area was without water for a week and is still under a boil water advisory.
Running water is OK to shower and wash in, but you aren't supposed to put it in your mouth. Either boil or use bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth.

Oh, I'd definitely want to work for NOAA and track hurricanes. I wouldn't want to be a TV guy.

I've often wondered what is the career path to being a legit TV meteorologist. You obviously have to have the science as well as on on-screen personality/look. I've always figured the local guys weren't top of their class, but I also give them the benefit of the doubt that they actually did their own work and knew what they were talking about. How did it work in old days with the weather bimbos?

Well that wasn't fun. The tornado pointed at my town did touch down here, two miles straight west from my house. A bunch of homes with damage and trees broken off. It then went to the town just north and damaged more homes. My electricity keeps going off and on, but I have a generator that kicks in when I lose FPL service. I don't even have palm fronds down in my yard, only someone's birthday balloon floating through my backyard. Tornadoes are so freaking random in what they do.

Much worse tornado damage in Martin County to property and people.

I want the damn hurricane wind field to get here so we will be out of tornado danger.

Good call. Couple of years ago, they went from temps in the 90s to snow in ~ 48 hours.

Yeah, we were there. May of 2022. Arrived on an 86-degree Thursday afternoon and it snowed about 4 inches on Friday. All of our Saturday graduation pictures have snow on the background.

My high school buddy who is a TV meteorologist in Panama City went to Florida State to get a meteorology degree (apparently one of the better schools for it), no advanced degree I don't think. But always knew exactly what he wanted to do. First job out of school was in tiny Albany, Ga., and eventually worked up and ultimately put roots down in Panama City. I'd say not too dissimilar to how one would have had a newspaper career 25-30 years ago.

He's also a gregarious 6-footer with good hair and was fanatical about skin care as a teenager.
