2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Running Thread

Parts of the roof has been ripped off of Tropicana Field, two panels are ripped off and you can see right into the stadium.

That has been the home for thousands of linemen waiting to be dispatched to turn power back on as soon as daylight hits.
Wrong stadium if you want to look at linemen. Oh wait.

If that's the "clean side" then Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Venice etc. may be unimaginable catastrophe zones.

It's a hurricane and it's going to be bad, but the storm moved in so quick that it caught low tide, which cut the storm surge. So maybe that'll mean less damage than expected.

Meanwhile, multiple fatalities over on the east coast from today's tornado outbreak.

That's the deal with this one. The hurricane part might not be as devastating as predicted. But when you throw in the tornadoes it spawned, the total damage may match the hype.

There is a big water main break in St. Petersburg is forcing them to cut off water service citywide.

On the bright side, no injuries reported at Tropicana Field or from the crane collapse.

Of all places, Mississippi State is considered the gold standard for those looking to break into broadcast meteorology. (There are more schools where you can do straight meteorology, and then try and pick up the TV skills later.)

I think they were the pioneer in online degrees for this. A heck of a lot of TV meteorologists got degrees there before online was common.
