2024 Basketball Hall of Fame Clash

I took summer school in Chapel Hill in the summer of 2000.

Vince Carter was finishing his degree by taking summer clashes, and every morning he would park his gorgeous, customized Bentley convertible in the J-school dean's parking spot. And every day it would be plastered with three or four parking tickets, but he'd do the same the next day.

And 24 years later it still cracks me up to think about.

Doesn't have anything to do with the Hall of Fame, but it's something I think about every time Carter's name comes up.

I don't know if Chauncy Billups is in or not - but I guaran-darn-tee you the Blazers won't can him until the end of the season to take advantage of the added interest. Everyone knows this isn't a playoff team - but the hope was that the team would at least establish a post-Dame "identity" to move forward. But injuries and growing pains have made that impossible thus far.

Certainly for much of his career Billups seemed like the kind of player who would make a good coach -- Doc Rivers I suppose would be a good comparison -- but so did Isiah and Dumars.

They gotta put in a couple of players. Billups and Carter I think will be the only ones.

It's really a not greap group so it feels like Collins and West will get picked. I think Bo Ryan finally makes it.

I don't see it with Walter Davis, although I can see how some view him as borderline and if he gets in whatever, and I really don't see it with Michael Cooper, who is a great glue guy for a dynasty but c'mon.

I don't think I've ever seen a more meh group of candidates for a sports hall than this one. I read that list and was like, is there another list?

next year might be worse, the best newcomer is Marc Gasol. After that it's like JJ Redick and Jeff Teague.

At least 2026 will have Carmelo and Dwight Howard
