2024 NFL Head Coaching Carousel

I think the odds are 50/50 that Davis does something stupid with the Raiders hire(s). He really needs to hire a GM first. I'd be fine if he kept Pierce and Champ Kelly, signed a decent veteran QB as a place holder. O'Connell isn't the answer But I fear Davis will want to make a splash, bring in another coach who wants "his kinda guys" and flip the roster for two years and get no closer to the playoffs.
I wouldn't be shocked if it was Harbaugh.

He'd never take it. He's set up now virtually for life at U-M; if he went to the Raiders and went 14-20 in two years he's shipcanned. He's a god in A2, he's not going to be Mark Davis' towel boy in Vegas.

He's frequently mentioned as a possibility for the Chargers. I don't see it; they're a long way from contending. He's 60, he's not going anywhere he'd have to spend 3-5 years getting into contention.

I can't see him even considering an NFL job unless it's a darn good one: a playoff team with stable ownership and some real talent where the coach unexpectedly quits or something.

Andy Reid?

Because it's Harbaugh, I could see him only wanting to go back to the NFC so he and John aren't fighting in the AFC to get the Super Bowl

I don't think that would be a factor. You don't always get to pick and choose your best situations.

Suppose a completely hypothetical situation: Jim Harbaugh is simultaneously offered jobs by the Commanders and Chiefs. Does he turn down KC because he doesn't want to go head to head against John for AFC playoff position?

Hell no. While the Chiefs are going to have some salary cap headaches in the next few seasons, as long as Mahomes is still close to his peak, they'll be in the hunt. The Commanders have a lot of holes to fill, it's going to take a few years.

I doubt either brother or dad Jack would probably think it would make more sense to take a major rebuild project over a contender-level team.

Right, but that's not an option.

If his choice is the Raiders or Falcons, Atlanta seems like an easier road to success. The Chargers would be a tougher call because the belief is the QB is in place. All the other openings, as of now, do not have that key piece. I think he'd take the Bears over the those others despte the QB questions because either he thinks he can turn Fields into a Kaepernick-type guy or you have the first pick if you want one of those QBs.

Thing is, I don't think he would leave Michigan to take any of the NFL dumpster-fire situations.

Vrabel is a fine coach and should be a viable candidate for any job
