Cannonball Run was also filmed in part in Georgia. There really is something about Reynolds having the pull to make movies in a region where not a lot of films were made once upon a time. Most of the movies I cited above could have been made anywhere, but shooting them in the South really gave them some character (and great character actors) they wouldn't have had otherwise. Throw in White Lightning, WW and the Dixie Dancekings, Hooper.

Reynolds shot films all over the present-day SEC, even Arkansas ("White Lightning" and the TV series "Evening Shade" among others).

(ADD: I've seen "White Lightning" and the memorable scene where he escapes the sheriff by ramping onto a river barge might, just might, be bought by a 10-year-old today.)
