If the Big 10 adds Nebraska and Notre Dame they could add Joliet Catholic as the 14th school and they'd still come out the winner in this.

And I really wonder how hard Texas tried to keep the 12 together (you know, like equalize the TV money).

They didn't, really. But Texas being Texas, it was shrewd enough to make someone else make the first move so it could say, "Don't blame us, Tom Osborne didn't commit to the conference and left for the Big 10, he's the one who killed the Big 12."

ESPN has Colorado already having the Pac-10 invite and the league is poised to add the other five (Texas, A&M, Okla, Okla St., Tech).

Rumor was that if Mizzou left, no big deal, one less mouth to feed. It all hinged on what Nebraska did. If Nebraska stayed, Texas (supposedly) said the Big 12 would march on and the Pac-10 advances would've been spurned.

Regardless of the circumstances, I can't blame Nebraska for leaving. The money was right, the rivalry with Iowa will be intense right away, and the university is now on very stable ground for years to come. Can't pass on that.

Ted Miller of ESPN has this report, but I still don't see why the Pac-10 would want just Colorado and Utah - that seems to F up their old Pac-8 and mess with the league's symmetry too much.

My guess is that the Pac-10 is spilling this BS and trying to invite Colorado first to lock out Baylor, which is certainly the most favored scenario.

Still I think Texas is key and if it stays in Big 12, the Pac-10 stands pat or would want to.

The SEC might be the one league left where geography still matters. No way Notre Dame or Kansas comes in, and Mizzou would be a 100-1 shot.

No way the SEC even sniffs Mizzou. If the Pac-16 and Big Tixteen happens, the SEC will likely expand for the heck of it, since we all know the SEC *has* to see it's penis as exponentially longer than anyone else's. And if the SEC expands, it's got the entire ACC to raid before it ever makes it to any of the Big XII schools. FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech and Clemson would all be fighting each other for a slot in the "new" SEC if it comes to that.

Here's a question: would Duke or Carolina ever consider switching conferences, or would they go down in the rubble if the SEC raided the ACC?

Duke or North Carolina to the SEC would be an upset of epic, EPIC proportions. I'd believe those two in a 2-team conference before I'd believe either of them would join the SEC.

1. Ga. Tech
2. Va. Tech

The only thing I could possibly think that could ever make this true is the Big 10 and Pac-10 trying to rule the world.

Big Ten gets Nebraska, Pac 10 grabs colorado... bye bye Big 12. Big Ten then raids Big East. Bye bye Notre Dame's strength, bye bye Big East football. Two less conferences to worry about. Three less if the SEC raids the ACC.

I suppose this could still happen. You would have a powerful Big 10, SEC, and Pac-10, a mediocre Big 12, a bad ACC and a bad Big East. Now it's a three conference race.

Why the heck would the SEC bother with Georgia Tech? They've got the Atlanta market sewn up without involving a school that draws about as well as Mississippi State.
