College football Week 5 thread: Shout at the Blue Devil

I suspect that in the last 24 hours one or more of those coaches has had a sit-down with Dilfer to explain that he gets one of those and that was it. If it happens again, one of them needs to beat him unconscious on the sidelines.

I've never had a job I needed so badly that I would let a boss treat me the way Trent forking Dilfer treats his staff.

Remember, this is a coach who repeatedly screamed like a lunatic and grabbed a high school player because he wanted him to sit down on the bench.

Couple of quick thoughts:
* Really nice bounceback win for my Hokies against a team that has been a horror show for them of late. Gives me a little hope that they can compete in the ACC going forward. I'm now squinting really hard and can maybe see the four wins needed to get bowl eligible -- Wake, Syracuse and NC State at home and one of BC or UVA away.
* Georgia is not the best team in the country. Not even close. But their toughest games (Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss) are in Athens. I'm not impressed at all with Beck and the run defense is a mess. Kentucky could pick them off next week.

Taking nothing away from Virginia Tech, which did what it had to do and appears to have a stud in Tuten, this is the worst Pitt team I've seen in 26 years. It may be worse than some of the Johnny Majors 2.0 teams that were dump trucked 72-0 by Ohio State. It's not even that they lose as much as they are completely outclassed in defeat. At no time did I watch that game Saturday thinking there was a chance at a win once they got down. I'm watching these games like I'm a neighbor looking out the window watching the cops show up next door; I have no vested interest but I want to see what happens next.

What's fascinating is they're bad in every way. Usually you have a good defense but your offense sucks, or vice versa. This team is awful in every facet, starting with a quarterback who can't complete a little two yard dump off, whose job is complicated by an incredibly weak offensive line due to injuries. The wide receivers dont get open, not that it matters, because Jurkovec doesn't see them when they are anyways. On the other side of the ball, the defense -- usually an at least competent aspect of a Narduzzi team -- missed 26 tackles Saturday night. Virginia Tech threw for big plays each time Pitt blitzed, exposing the fact that the goddamned blitz package can't get home and leaves open men downfield.

I'm not even angry because I don't even know what to be angry at. All of it is awful and I don't know how you go from 11 wins and an ACC title to this in less than two years. I know some kids graduated or went to the NFL draft but damn, they're going to go 1-11 and Pitt should never be 1-11 bad. 5-7 bad, sure. But this is straight up incompetence at all levels.

In the words of the announcer, UCF "has fallen apart like a $5 lawn chair." Went from a 35-7 lead to 35-33 with 90 seconds left and Baylor in field goal range.

This will be UCF's story in the Big XII in year one. They will be good, at times very good, for two and a half quarters and then the lack depth on the second-team defense will show up and they get overpowered. Happened against Kansas State last week and Baylor this week. Gus also had a couple of game management farts to help it along.

Eh, the LSU guy just pushed him down. If you storm the field you take whatever happens. Not like he punched him in the face five or six times.

Plus, he's a student. They're stupid and bounce back.

UCF is getting the full Gus Experience in all its boring mediocrity. I'm sure he'll remind them it's his fault and he'll get it fixed.

He stormed the field and yelled "F*** LSU" in the player's face
