Nothing will top the TCU backfield of Tonsillitis Johnson and Artis Toothis.

Congrats to Dan Jenkins on an honor well-deserved.

I forgot about Artis Toothis.

Should have found my Climpson media guide and looked up Potatus Fry.

I seriously almost made You Gotta Play Hurt requried reading for my original course a few years back. His two buddies in the book, Furman Bisher and Mike Lupica - right? I can't remember their names. Dub and Richie?

Richie Pace. Can't remember Dub's last name.

and Richie doesn't do second row.

I think Dub was "Fricker." Which I love.

Someone told me Lupica was seriously pissed when the book came out.

Gee, that's really hard to believe...

And You Gotta Play Hurt is 20 years old.

You may be right - I just knew it was an older, southern gentleman type and had heard several times it was Furman. Hubert would fit as well as Furman. Interesting trio of running mates, for sure.

Given the extent to which DJ has inspired Lupica's second career to the extent he has, Mikey should genuflect at length whenever DJ's name is mentioned.

If he doesn't feel this level of gratitude, he's delusional . . . oh, wait . . .

shirt, I think I was that list one time at Nye's. And again in Louisville. But not in Missoula.

This from Big 'Un Darly, sports editor of the Claybelle Times-Standard in Jenkins' Fast Copy.

Purple sage and bronco-bustin football rode into Claybelle last night, and yippie-ti-yi-yee if the heck-for-leather Yellow Jackets didn't upset the vaunted Pascal Panthers 6-0 in an earthquake of an upset, you bet!

Paschal won the toss and elected to receive. The wind was out of the southeast. Claybelle kick to Paschal who receive. Schilder up the middle for 2. Kring off tackle for 5. Schilder around end for 6. Schilder no gain. Offsides Jackets. (Bad call). ...

These days, as I age, I tend to stop at No. 4. Man do I miss being invisible.
