zzzzzzz all you want, shockey, but Tiger IS the greatest golfer to ever play the game.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Yeah, yeah. Tiger is the greatest golfer. MJ is the greatest basketball player. Ali is the greatest boxer. So what?

As has been said elsewhere, a-forking-men.

People can act like Doug Ferguson and Jim Nantz and the others are fellating him, but he is the first guy America wants to know about when they turn on a tournament. Deal with it.

If I'm not mistaken, it's an AP mandate that Tiger has to be mentioned in the lead whenever he plays.

That's the spirit.

What I meant was.....we all know Tiger's the greatest golfer ever to play. Not sure anyone has disputed that, at least not on this thread. Some people are just sick of hearing about Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, when it's not warrented. He could be 10 shots out today and still draw the most attention.

See, I don't see that Tiger blew it so much on that last putt. Sure, it would have helped tremendously. But he's still four back. Immelman has to lose this to actually give up the jacket.

whether or not it would have made this thing interesting is moot. TIGER CHOKED ON THE PUTT REGARDLESS, YES? but far be it to anyone say so on the air.

wussies.

That's the politesse of golf broadcasting more than it is the Tiger Woods Effect. Johnny Miller is the only golf analyst who routinely calls it as he sees it, and has made himself an absolute star for having done so. But he's the only one who's ever gotten away with it on a weekly basis.

Faldo's fairly honest.

I think so, too. But he's still polite in his criticisms. Miller's a great deal more colorful, and likely to characterize something as a choke or a shank or a terrible effort.

i don't doubt that. but i also don't really care. just amused so many people do. guess it's because it's the one sport every joe schmoe keeps playing as an adult. but all it gets from me -- as a spectator -- is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's.

no right or wrong, obviously. just ain't my thang.

There's good reason for that. He's one of, if not the best player in golf's history. Ratings skyrocket when he's in contention. Crowds are mashive when he plays an event. It's the way it is.

I don't disagree. But some get tired of hearing about Tiger non-stop for four straight days every week; five or six days straight when a major is being played. There are other good stories out there. That's not saying he's not the best player, or that he doesn't draw ratings and a crowd.

A good example of a Tigerism from Feherty a minute ago: It's been a rough week. He's battled himself mostly.'

vs. what? Those 10 bad shots he had Mark O'Meara hit for him in the second round?

Another: "It's been an exasperating day for Tiger Woods." And it wasn't for Paul Casey?

Another: "Nice to see him smile. It's been a long, long day."

The guy played even par golf.
