MLB 2025 Spring Training Thread

I totally agree. I said here that I couldn't believe they didn't sign Alonso from the clearance rack

He was the answer to an sj.com trivia question, IIRC, something in conjunction with Mickey Mantle.

So is Bobby Shantz now the oldest living ex-player? He'll be 100 this September.

Yeah, that was my trivia question. I think he was the guy who got called up when the Yankees sent Mantle down to the minors after a slow start.

RIP.

There are reports that Gerrit Cole has already been told he needs Tommy John surgery. He is seeking a second opinion. The Yankees already lost Gil for a significant chunk of the season, so their rotation is suddenly very shaky.

Maybe Cease ends up in New York?

I leave for a few days and the Orioles pitching completely falls apart before the season can even start. Bummer.

I know Rodriguez may miss some time and Kittridge is out until at least June. Was there anyone else?

There are still some relief options available. David Robertson is old, but the guy was still very effective in 2024.

I think it's just those two. No idea when Bradish or Wells will be ready. Still, that rotation was flimsy at best to begin with. Any hit is going to hurt.

At least Sugano has looked good this spring.
